ENVIEDAN project in Humanities in the Societal Challenges

The project “ENVIEDAN - Environmental history of the Viennese Danube 1500-1890: Understanding dynamics patterns and long-term side-effects of the colonization of rivers”, linked to the Danube:Future project, was chosen as one of 12 EU-wide projects to be included in the brochure Humanities in the Societal Challenges: 12 compelling cases for policymakers, recently produced by the Science Europe Scientific Committee for the Humanities.

The document can be found and downloaded at http://www.scienceeurope.org/downloads.
The brochure was presented at the EU Presidency conference `Horizons for Social Sciences and Humanities´ in Vilnius, Lithuania, and aims to increase awareness of how the humanities are actually contributing to the Societal Challenges, a contribution that should not be disregarded in the formulation of the Horizon 2020 programme texts.
The choice of the ENVIEDAN project is indeed a strong recognition of the central importance of environmental history for the grand challenges that our society needs to face and overcome, and shows the significance of the Danube:Future project for the actual definition and development of a sustainable future for the Danube River Basin.
