The role of natural heritage for the sustainable development of the Danube Region. 


The Danube River Basin is facing a multitude of environmental problems. Pollution and hydro-morphological change have been identified as the most pressing. At the same time it can build on a rich biodiversity and natural heritage. This introductory lecture will give an overview on

  • the catchment and the Danube river
  • the current environmental problems
  • the long-term coupled development of humans and nature
  • the resulting prerequisites for maintaining and improving natural heritage

The lecture will also provide an introduction to the program and goals of the school and on the contribution of participants.
